What are the Provisions?

In 2000, the ground is now a Heritage Park deeded from the Lakeway Historical Society Inc to Lakeway City, provided that the space might be used, developed, and improved to:

  • Further the preservation, collection, storage as well as display of Lakeway historical studs:
  • Be a warehouse for official as well as historical records about the geographical area of the city of Lakeway.
  • Built pride in the heritage of the city, development, and growth:
  • Educate adults and youth about the historical significance of Lakeway and, at the same time, promote historic sites and legends of the town.

Following a comprehensive demolition as well as rebuilding effort of the novel Historical Society structure in 2002, the latest Heritage Center was dedicated on November 11, 2005, Veterans Day. The new construction integrated the restoration of a part of the novel ranch house developed in the 1930s. The Heritage Center considers archive storage rooms, public restrooms, an archivist office, a small kitchen, and a meeting room. Read here

Spirit of Freedom Monument

This is one of the most popular and significant landmarks inside the Heritage park. Located near the Heritage Center is the Freedom Monument. The Heritage Committee includes the names of previous and current Lakeway residents in the Spirit of Freedom Monument system. This honors those inhabitants who served in the US armed forces during war, hostility, or conflict, which include Korean War, World War II, Gulf War, Vietnam War, and Panama, as well as Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi and the Global War on Terror.

The primary purpose of the Heritage Commission is to conserve, protect and promote the photographs, documents, and memorabilia which chronicle the history of Lakeway City.
